Still searching for Flurry

Nelson resident Brian Rehwald and his wife continue to search for their lost poodle after it escaped from Kelowna International Airport.

Rehwald bought two standard poodles from Ontario, which arrived at YLW on Wednesday, but as he was loading them into his vehicle, they bolted.

One dog, Sparkle, was found that night after it was hit by a car.

"She is improving and is currently awaiting surgery for her broken pelvis," Rehwald said.

Flurry, meanwhile, has been spotted, but is still on the loose.

"We have located the other dog, but we haven't caught her yet. She was seen in the long-term parking. Last night we got a call at about 1 a.m. from one of the airport commissioners that was patrolling the lot," Rehwald said.

"She heard a dog howling and whimpering, and she new it was Flurry. She called us, and we drove out last night and were able to pinpoint her location, which was right by the Tim Hortons and Esso station."

The challenge has been luring Flurry close enough so someone can get a hold of her, but WestJet is hoping it can be of service.

"Westjet has offered to fly the original owner out from Ontario on a compassionate flight to help talk Flurry into arm's reach," Rehwald added.

The original owner is expected to touch down at YLW tonight, and Rehwald says they will be out with animal control officers as soon as possible to try and bring the dog home.
