Goat owners found

UPDATE 10:36 a.m.

The owner of the goats has been found.

Janine Johnson wants to reunite five wayward goats with their rightful owner, but so far no one has stepped up to claim the animals.

The goats were found wandering the McLeod Subdivision in Spallumcheen earlier this week and Johnson has been trying to find the owners ever since.

She has posted on Facebook and contacted area media looking for the owners.

The goats were found by Johnson's neighbour as they were making their way to a local creek. Johnson has goats of her own, so she took the lost animals under her care.

It is not known how long the goats have been on their own, but Johnson said they are in good shape.

“Their feet could use a trimming, but they are not horrible,” said Johnson. “They've got good weight on them. They're friendly. It is summertime, so who knows how long they have been wandering for. They can eat everything they find.”

Johnson said there is a bylaw in Spallumcheen that says if an animal is not claimed within 72 hours, they can be put up for public auction.

“I really don't want that to happen,” said Johnson. “What if the owners are away? I don't want to see them go somewhere. I want to keep them all together, and if the owners show up, if it's a month, I don't care. I would be devastated if somebody sold my goats on me.”

Johnson said she can be reached at 250-308-2055.
