Highway 3 reopened

UPDATE 11:35 a.m.

Highway 3 is now open to single lane alternating traffic, about 20 kilometres west of Creston.

A nearby wildfire forced the closure of the highway earlier in the day, but motorists should continue to expect delays of up to 20 minutes.

ORIGINAL 7:30 a.m.

Highway 3 has now been closed in both directions because of wildfire activity.

The Crowsnest Highway is closed 20 km west of Creston due to debris and heavy smoke because of forest fire activity.

There is an ongoing assessment in conjunction with BC Wildfire Service.

An alternate route is available via Hwy 6 and 3A to the Kootenay Lake Ferry. Estimated travel times is 2.5 hours.

High traffic volumes are possible at Kootenay Lake Ferry Terminals throughout the day.
