Sorry, new stat holiday?

The federal government is exploring dates for a proposed new statutory holiday.

CTV is reporting that consultations are underway right now to firm up a date for the new holiday which would mark Canada’s residential school legacy.

The impetus to create the holiday is one of  94 calls to from the Truth and Reconciliation Commission.

Right now we have five statutory holidays in Canada: Christmas Day, New Year’s Day, Canada Day, Labour Day, and Good Friday.

Some of the other federal holidays like Victoria Day, Remembrance Day, and Thanksgiving, are not recognized in every province.

This new stat would need to be endorsed by each province and territory and their laws would also need to be changed.
