Heart leaves void in family

A GoFundMe campaign has been set up for the family of a former Kelowna man who died suddenly, leaving behind a wife and three children.

Troy Wanner died in hospital July 27 after his body began rejecting a new heart he received 10 years ago. He leaves behind his wife Jessica and kids.

Wanner had a successful transplant in February 2008 after a virus attacked his heart. He was just 29 at the time.

According to the GoFundMe page, he was healthy and living a normal life until he had trouble breathing and had some swelling in his stomach back in May. The diagnosis – his body was rejecting the new heart.

A variety of treatments and drugs were unable to reverse the rejection.

The Wanners relocated to Edmonton nearly a year ago, when his wife got a job with CN Rail. She is on leave to look after the children.

The GoFundMe campaign is trying to raise money to help relieve the burden on the family.

As of Thursday, it had reached $33,000 of its $100,000 target.
