Patrols for Westbank Centre

Downtown security patrols are set to begin in West Kelowna.

The patrols will start this week in the Westbank Town Centre to discourage "inappropriate behaviour," the city says.

The city hired Paladin Security to patrol the area, particularly around public facilities including Westbank Lions Hall and the transit exchange. Patrols will continue into the late evening hours, seven days a week, through September.

Working jointly with RCMP and bylaw enforcement officers, the patrols will help ensure a safer downtown, the city said in a press release.

"These patrols are a trial project for two months, after which the effectiveness of the trial will be reviewed for potential improvements to ensure objectives are being met," the city said.

Suspicious behaviour can be reported to Paladin at 250-681-1417.

To report a bylaw infraction, call 778-797-8810. Or to report a crime, call 911 or, for non-emergency complaints, 250-768-2880.
