Signs to thank fire crews

A resident of Garnett Valley Road, which is one of the rural areas near Summerland with properties under evacuation alert from the Mount Eneas wildfire, drove up and down the road taking photos of touching tributes to firefighters that had popped up on many properties.

Phoebe Kotulska thought people could use a feel-good story.

"Throughout the terrible news of all the fires, we could do with a positive news story," she wrote in an email to Castanet.

Kotulska drove down the road and stopped to take a photo of every hand-made sign she saw in a driveway, all of which carried some version of "Thank you firefighters."

"I thought this might be a nice thing to share with the community and show the firefighters that their efforts do not go unnoticed and we are thankful," she wrote.
