Boat catches fire

UPDATE 5:15 p.m.

Castanet has learned more about a rescue on Okanagan Lake Sunday afternoon.

Roland Marcotte tells Castanet he was cruising the lake when he saw smoke and two people in the water off the shore near Peachland.

"We saw smoke on the boat in the distance and we went to investigate. There were two people waving their arms in the water. Their engine had some smoke billowing out of it and we didn't know whether it was on fire inside so we called 911."

Earlier reports indicated one person was taken to hospital but Marcotte says, "He had some hair on his arm singed but everyone on the boat is ok. The rescue team towed the pontoon boat to the dog beach."
