A workplace accident claimed the life of a heavy duty mechanic at Fraser Surrey Docks on Saturday.

The victim was killed when he became pinned under a forklift.

Rob Ashton, president of the International Longshore and Warehouse Union Canada, confirmed the death.

“This is a very sad day,” Ashton said in a release. “A worker went to his job this morning and didn’t go home to his family."

Police and Employment Services Development Canada are investigating the incident.
