Eyes on the Okanagan

The eyes of the province, if not the country, are on the Central and South Okanagan.

Massive wildfires sparked by an unexpected thunderstorm Tuesday evening have erupted throughout the region.

The BC Wildfire Service is on the frontlines once again facing the heat from the fires.

"This is our job," says fire information officer Noelle Kekula. "The crews are out working and they have objectives to achieve and those objectives are to protect life and property."

Kekula says that while it is all hands on deck, BCWS does still have more resources available.

"Internally, we still have resources to draw from our BC Wildfire crews, and contract crews. So resources are being requested from internally in the province."

Federal help could also be on the way, if needed.

Kelowna—Lake Country MP Stephen Fuhr has been reassured that federal resources are available.

As for provincially, party leaders have expressed their appreciation for the work being done by fire crews.
