DriveBC now indicating that Highway 97 is fully opened. That is good news for morning commuters and likely an indication that the fire is shifting away from the highway.

Wildfire activity and the efforts to battle those fires has had a serious impact on transportation between Kelowna and Penticton for almost 48 hours now.
The highway has been mostly open to single lane traffic but was closed and re-opened 4 times in the past 24 hours due to dynamic wildfire activity,
As of five a.m. Friday morning the highway is open to single-lane traffic with an RCMP escort. This after being closed after midnight.
Shifting winds have fanned wildfires across the region and are making fighting the fires a serious challenge. Part of that challenge is keeping transportation corridors working and protecting people and property.
