City announces fire ban

The City of Penticton has announced a fire ban, effective Friday at noon.

All open burning, campfires, fireworks and tiki torches will be prohibited due to extremely dry conditions and a high fire danger rating.

The ban does not include propane, gas or briquettes.

“The City of Penticton beach fire pits shall not be used and will be decommissioned for the duration of this temporary fire ban” a city news release says.

Anyone found in violating the ban can be fined or be forced to pay the costs of fighting any wildfire they cause.
