UPDATED: 10:32 p.m.

Bill Wacey, BX Swan Lake Fire Rescue Department Fire Chief says that no structures are in danger at this time.

Fire crews will be battling the blaze throughout the night.

Residents in the area should not be worried at this time, says Wacey.

ORIGINAL: 10:02 p.m.

A fire has broke out above Vernon's BX area.

The fire sparked just before 9 p.m. Tuesday evening.

Castanet reporter Josh Winquist is on scene and says, "The fire appears to be at the end of Hartnell Road."

"It's fully inflamed and orange," says Anastasia Jenkins, who watched the fire spark from afar.

She says fire crews are already on scene tackling the blaze.

Jenkins says it looks as though the blaze was started by a lightning strike.

The exact location of the blaze is unknown at this time.

BC Wildfire Service is on scene at the blaze.

Castanet will update with more information as it becomes available.
