Motorbike crash was fatal

Police have confirmed one person lost their life in a three-vehicle crash on Highway 97 near Oliver on Saturday.

Investigators believe a northbound vehicle crossed the centre line around 2:45 p.m. near Road 18 and side-swiped a northbound vehicle before crashing head-on into an oncoming motorcycle with two occupants.

“The male driver and female passenger of the motorcycle were both rushed to hospital,” said Cst. Mike Halskov in a news release. “The driver of the motorcycle succumbed to his injuries in hospital and the female passenger remains in hospital in critical condition.”

Injuries to the other drivers were minor. Highway 97 was closed for upwards of five hours as a result of the crash.

The RCMP South Okanagan Traffic Services and BC Coroners Service are appealing to the public for any witnesses that may have information or dashcam footage of the crash. Anyone that does, can call 250-499-2250.
