Hands-on learning

One of the many things the Okanagan Science Centre is good at is getting kids to learn while having fun and the latest exhibit does just that.

Fast Tracks allows children of all ages to build paths of tubes and connections that a wooden ball can role through.

Designed and built by OSC head of exhibits Joanne Sale, the exhibit gets children of all ages using their minds.

“Fast Tracks is almost like a cross between a marble run and a Rube Goldberg machine,” said Sale, adding the configurations are limited only by the imagination.

“It's getting kids to think about trajectory and speed so some pieces will slow down the speed of the wooden ball while some will accelerate them. It is basically hands on, spacial learning.”

The exhibit also teaches about physics in such a fun way, she said, that the children don't even realize they are learning.
