Support for SOWINS

A local private liquor store has raised $1,300 for the South Okanagan Women in Need Society.

Jak’s Beer-Wine-Liquor held its annual Summer Celebration June 23, with 10 per cent of sales going to SOWINS.

The organization provides local women, children and families support as they flee violence and abuse. Last year, there were more than 4,500 stays at the transition house and 500 counselling sessions for children provided.

“There is a tremendous need in the South Okanagan," states Debbie Scarborough, executive director. "Our transition house is currently full including, 17 children and their mothers seeking safety.”

“We are extremely grateful to Jak’s and companies like Jak’s that choose SOWINS for their fundraising initiatives. Together we can make a difference in the lives of women, youth and children,” says Scarborough.
