Searching for assault suspect

A teenager in West Kelowna was seriously injured Wednesday afternoon after a fight broke out amongst several people in a parking lot, but a suspect has yet to be apprehended.

Police responded to the parking lot of a business on the 2400 block of Dobbin Road just before 2 p.m. after receiving reports of “a physical altercation between numerous individuals,” according to Kelowna RCMP.

A teenager was reportedly assaulted with a weapon during the fight, resulting in a serious injury to his upper arm.

Police have not disclosed the type of weapon used in the assault.

“A short time later, police received a report of a theft of a bicycle, that just occurred, from the rear of a pickup truck parked in the 3800 block of nearby Brown Road,” said Cpl. Jesse O’Donaghey of the Kelowna RCMP.

“Our investigators have reason to believe that the assault suspect was also responsible for the bike theft.”

With the assistance of an RCMP helicopter, police searched the area, but did not find the person responsible for the assault.

Police are asking anyone who saw the altercation to call the West Kelowna RCMP at 250-768-2880.
