April Wine will play the hits

Canadian classic rock greats April Wine haven't been to Penticton in years, but guitarist and vocalist Brian Greenway is looking forward to a return visit for PeachFest this summer.

"I love outdoors in the summertime. The sound's great, the air is great, and there's no capacity issues, it's not limited. You can have lots of people and if it's a beautiful night, there's nothing like it," Greenway said.

Fans of the band can expect a set list that will include plenty of their biggest hits.

"We do a cross section from 1979 up to '84, and then go back to some of the bigger hits from the early 70s," Greenway said.

With over 20 albums under their belt, the band has plenty of material to choose from, and while Greenway said sometimes it can get tedious, he enjoys the audience reaction.

"After 40 years of playing them all, I know them pretty good," Greenway said, adding he sometimes does pick favourites. "It changes, the reaction of people to the songs. Some of the simpler songs are the most fun to play, like 'Tonite is a wonderful time to fall in love.'"

There's talk of another album for the band's 50th year anniversary for 2019. Greenway chuckled with disbelief as he thought about how long he had been performing.

"It doesn't feel like that long, but there have been a lot of shows, a lot of memories," he said. "Some will fade away and some stay there, and some all the sudden some appear in your mind when something reminds you of it."

April Wine will hit the stage Thursday, August 9.
