Let them live in squalor

Re: the Homeless Hotspot

Why are our tax dollars funding the Cornerstone shelter? Why does the Gospel Mission need donations to give street people a place to sleep?

The street people don't use them. I see them every night in doorways, on sidewalks, benches, in parks, etc.

They swear at you. They scream and yell. They get belligerent when you refuse to give them more of your hard-earned money.

They claim to want low-cost housing – what for? They have two free places to stay and don't use them.

Soon, we will have a semi-permanent structure on Commerce Avenue that won't be used either. Why are we spending so much time and effort on these people? They clearly do not want the help. Why does anyone bother?

Think of this the next time your car is broken into. Or your bike is stolen. Or your property or business is vandalized. Or you see someone OD'ing with paramedics there. Responding to them costs thousands of dollars.

Your tax dollars are paying these people to live on the street and victimize you. Stop giving to them, and let them live in squalor.

Frankly, if we stopped giving a damn about them, their attitude would have to change. One free Naloxone kit given by EHS. One free ride to the ER. After that, youre on your own.
