Burglar takes off with yogurt

A man well-known to police is in custody on break-and-enter charges related to an incident Wednesday in Penticton.

An overnight burglary was reported at 8 a.m. June 20 on the 2300 block of Mackenzie Street, where an insecure window on the garage was entered and numerous food items and a pellet gun was stolen. The vehicle was also tampered with in an attempt to steal it.

“Forensic examination of the scene resulted in evidence linking a known individual to the scene,” Cpl. Don Wrigglesworth said. “The male was identified by police through a neighbour's security video and had been arrested already on unrelated matters.”

The man was arrested in possession of items from the burglary, which included beer, eggs and yogurt.

“The 75 year old female resident, who discovered the break in that morning with her husband, said ‘can you believe that?  They must really like yogurt.’” Wrigglesworth said.

The male remains in custody.
