Firemen flipping pancakes

The Penticton Fire Department is giving back to the community with their annual pancake breakfast fundraiser during the coming weekend.

It takes place at the south end of Gyro Park, and is purposely timed to coincide with the Peach City Beach Cruise and the Elvis Festival.

"It's $7, and we usually have a really good turnout," said firefighter Kevin Zazzara, organizer for this year's breakfast, "We have an old antique firetruck out there too, and [people] can get some pictures on it if they like."

Off-duty firefighters will be manning the griddle starting at 7 a.m. Saturday until around 11 a.m., and will repeat the process Sunday. The event is sponsored by Scotiabank and all funds go to the Penticton Firefighters Charitable Society.

"We've raised a lot of money over the years from it and we put it back into the community," Zazzara said. "All the funds we raise from it go to different charities in the community."

Zazzara also added that although the Elvis Festival will be ongoing in Gyro Park during the breakfast, you don't need to have purchased an event ticket to come buy some pancakes.
