Fire dept. testing on Friday

The Penticton Fire Department is advising residents about testing on Friday in the Valley View Road, Sutherland Road and Riddle Road areas.

The testing will involve firefighting gear being moved into the area with emergency lights and sirens active. The tests will evaluate fire flow rates for fire protection modeling. Water will be flowing and may be noticeable on roadways.

“The Fire Department is asking for the public’s cooperation in giving these tests spaces room to work”, said Penticton Fire Chief, Larry Watkinson.  “We thank residents and motorists for their patience while these beneficial tests are carried out.”

Residents in the Riddle Road area have been lobbying the city for a fire hydrant to be installed in the area for over a year, a costly endeavour for a handful of homes. The city is instead looking at getting a certified  "superior tanker shuttle service" up and running, which uses water tender trucks to provide the same amount of water without a hydrant.
