Puppies in training

The streets of Calgary just got a whole lot cuter.

Pacific Assistance Dogs Society welcomed the Reese’s Peace’s litter in Calgary eight weeks ago, and the pups are now hitting the streets of Calgary as puppies in training to change lives.

PADS breeds, raises, trains and supports certified assistance dogs, partnering them with people living with disabilities, and with community care professionals.

PADS is more than 90 per cent volunteer-driven with locations across Canada, including a program in Lake Country.

"Before they are ready to go to a disabled client, the care and training of each assistance dog puppy-in-training can cost as much as $35,000," PADS said in the release. "Our generous donors make this possible. Puppy-raising families provide essential training and socialization of the young pups, taking them with them everywhere."

It takes 20 to 24 months to train a dog.
