Penticton

Prize home a first in city

Colton Davies

An annual provincial lottery that raises money for charities will have a taste of Penticton this year.

The Hometown Heroes Lottery has six prize packages in B.C., one that includes a home in Skaha Hills as well two vehicles, a three-week cruise and an extra $1 million. The entire package is valued at $2.2 million.

The 1,500 square-foot home with a 500 square-foot patio is called a “terraced rancher townhouse” by its developers.

"It's a pretty unique offering... There wasn't to my knowledge anything else like it on the market," Curt Jansen says with Skaha Hill Development.

The home is part of a 24-unit building, which Jansen says "functions a little more like a townhouse. They feel like a single-level rancher home. But from the outside, because it's a four-storey building built into the hillside, they look a little more like a condo building."

The package is one of seven main prizes for the lottery, which helps fund the BC Professional Firefighters Burn Fund and the Vancouver General and UBC Hospital Foundations.

Jansen says Skaha Hills is excited to be a part of the lottery, and says it’s the first time a luxury home in Penticton has been included in one of the lottery’s prize packages.

Tickets sales for the lottery end on July 12, and the draw for the seven grand prizes will happen on August 2.
