A 'terrible prank'

UPDATE: 3:05 p.m.

Police say the incident at Rutland Senior Secondary Wednesday morning was a "terrible prank," and the students responsible will be "disciplined at the school level."

At about 10 a.m., students at RSS hijacked the school's PA system and broadcast the song Pumped Up Kicks. The song contains lyrics that appear to reference a school shooting.

Cpl. Tania Carrol of the Kelowna RCMP says the school was never put under a lockdown, and the students responsible have since been identified.

A few tense moments for some students at Rutland Senior Secondary Wednesday morning.

Two students got access to the school's public address system at about 10 a.m., and played the song Pumped Up Kicks.

The song, about a kid with homicidal thoughts, includes the lyrics:

All the other kids with the pumped up kicks
You'd better run, better run, out run my gun
All the other kids with the pumped up kicks
You'd better run, better run, faster than my bullet

Students at the school told Castanet News some teachers locked their classrooms as a precaution.

School District 23 Supt. Kevin Kaardal says the school was never on lockdown and RCMP, who were at the school on other matters, were talking to those involved.
