Duckling drain rescue

UPDATE: 11:00 a.m.

The ducklings were scooped out of the storm drain successfully by a city worker.

All three babies were saved, and now the hunt is on for their mother, who is believed to still be in the area.

Even if she can't be found, though, the ducklings will be delivered to a shelter for care.

A rescue operation is being mounted in Penticton after several baby ducks fell down a storm drain.

Castanet has a reporter on scene where at least three ducklings are trapped in the storm drain at the busy intersection.

“At least three babies can be seen in the drain, all of whom are calling out constantly,” said reporter Chelsea Powrie.

The ducks are trapped at the corner of Power Street and Highway 97.

A witness told Castanet what appeared to be the mother duck and two ducklings were at the scene earlier, but appear to have left the area.

“The city has been notified and workers are on the way to rescue the babies,” said Powrie.

Castanet will have more information as soon as it becomes available.
