Stopped stealing wheels

A couple of would-be thieves were stopped mid-theft early Monday morning by a keen-eyed police officer.

RCMP say at about 2:30 a.m. a patrolling RCMP officer spotted what he thought was two males attempting to steal wheels and tires from a parked vehicle on 10th Street.

When the officer stopped and turned around, the two men fled.

RCMP gave chase catching one man. While arresting the man, a scuffle broke out, which allowed the second man to get away.

The man who was arrested is known to police.

"The owner confirmed that he did not give the male in custody permission to take the wheels from his vehicle," stated Salmon Arm RCMP in a press release.

The 53-year-old man that was arrested has been released to appear in court in mid-August to answer to theft charges stemming from this incident.
