No bail yet for accused

One of the men accused of first-degree murder in the 1986 death of a Vernon woman was in court today for a bail hearing.

A decision on bail for Paramjit Singh Bogarh has been adjourned to June 29.

Paramjit and his brother, Narinder Singh Bogarh, are co-accused in the murder of Saminder Kaur Bogarh.

Paramjit was married to Saminder at the time of the murder. Both men were originally charged with second-degree murder, however, the charges were eventually dropped.

Shortly after the Saminder's murder, both men left Canada.

In a packed Vernon courtroom Tuesday, family of the victim and the accused sat while the defence and Crown countered points on the reasons for and against a possible bail.

In the bail hearing, which is under a publication ban, Crown presented a detailed timeline of evidence against the co-accused leading up to the extradition of Paramjit.

The defence countered by calling the evidence against the men weak and circumstantial.

Paramjit was recently extradited to Canada from the United States to face charges of first-degree murder as well as conspiracy to commit murder.

Paramjit has spent the past 21 years in California. He has remarried and has an adult son.

Narinder is currently in India, to date all efforts to extradite him to Canada have failed. Narinder is charged with the same offences as his brother, Paramjit.
