Baby rescued from hot truck

A baby was accidentally locked in a hot vehicle on Tuesday morning in Vernon.

Emergency crews were called to the Vernon & District Performing Arts Centre parking lot at about 11 a.m. to find a woman panicking after accidentally locking her keys in her truck with a newborn baby.

The driver of the vehicle immediately called 9-1-1 and never left the vehicle unattended, according to a witness.

When Castanet arrived on scene fire crews and police were attempting to pry open the vehicle doors.

Minutes later they managed to open one of the back doors and rescue the very calm baby.

The owner of the truck immediately held the infant in her arms and was seen thanking emergency crews, with tear-filled eyes.

Every year police urge parents to remember it's not safe to leave young children in the car at any time, particularly when the weather is warm.
