Overnight rescue for biker

A Penticton man is in hospital in Kelowna after a long night stuck with injuries on a hill overlooking Penticton.

Shortly after 10 p.m. Tuesday evening, Penticton Search and Rescue was alerted by Penticton RCMP that residents on Saliken Drive, above Ellis Creek canyon, that someone was calling out for help.

PENSAR and police were able to identify that a man was calling from a ridge across the creek, in the Wiltse Flats area. 

Eighteen rescuers climbed up into the area and found the 47-year-old mountain biker, who had lost control in the steep terrain and was suffering from a number of injuries. 

As daylight was fading, the rescue team determined it was safer to stay overnight with the injured man until dawn, when an evacuation could be executed.

Around 5:20 a.m., the man was picked up by a helicopter and transported to Kelowna General Hospital for treatment, where he currently remains.
