Teeing off for a cause

Professional and amateur golfers teed off for cancer on Wednesday.

As part of the GolfBC Championship being held at Gallagher's Canyon Golf & Country Club, golfers took a swing at the long drive for charity.

Funds raised from the event will go to a very important and much needed piece of medical equipment.

BC Cancer director, Cynthia Waldek-Peters said this event is significant.

“This year we have been raising funds to bring a PET/CT scan to Kelowna,” she said. “We just announced that we are $4 million into our $5 million campaign.”

Waldek-Peters said the event will help bring them closer to that goal.

Jake Knapp took home the title this year with an impressive 366 yard drive.

“It is so fantastic to be part of this event and to see and hear how passionate people are about supporting the event and bringing the PET/CT to Kelowna,” said Waldek-Peters.

Tickets for the weekend long event can be purchased online here with a portion being donated towards the BC Cancer Foundation.
