New campground gets nod

Summerland council has signed off on a 15-unit campground proposed for 20201 Princeton-Summerland Rd.

No one spoke at a public hearing Monday on the rezoning of the property to allow the business.

“Our campground is very family friendly, quiet… will have one central fire pit because we are scared of fires too,” said property owner Leanna Jewel. “I think that Summerland needs some affordable accommodation for families to come and enjoy our town.”

A rate sheet attached to the report to council shows the campground will charge $30 per night for RVs and $20 per night for tents. "Glamping" pods will also be rented for $149-$249 a night.

The rezoning passed with little discussion from councillors. The plan will now be forwarded to the Ministry of Transportation for approval, before coming back to council for a final look.
