Being safe on a bike

The RCMP First Nations Policing unit are doing their part to keep bikers in the city safe.

Safety stations and a bike rodeo was set up Friday at the Sensisyusten House of Learning in Westbank.

“It’s about being safe while riding their bikes in our community,” said Cpl. Mike Williams, NCO in charge of the First Nations Policing unit based out of the West Kelowna Detachment.

“Our main goal was to ensure that each of these students possessed a proper fitting helmet and that they knew the skills necessary to be safe on their bikes,” he added.

After learning the fundamentals of bicycle safety, the students and staff were treated to a special lunch provided and served by officers of the West Kelowna RCMP Detachment.

Out of the 70 students police officers drew the names of two lucky kids who were entered into a draw for two brand new bicycles donated by the local RCMP Detachment.
