Falcons fall to Bears

The Kelowna Falcons couldn't find a way to close out the Black Bears even after holding an 8-1 lead through six innings.

In the end the Cowlitz Black Bears came from behind to win 9-8 in the finale of their three-game series from David Story Field on Sunday evening.

The Black Bears opened the scoring in the game with an RBI single by Austin Bell in the 1st inning before Kelowna’s offence took over and scored three runs in the 2nd inning before a three-run home run from Cody Crowder over the right field fence for a 6-1 Falcons lead. A pair of runs in the 6th inning extended the Falcons advantage to 8-1 before the bullpen came on to relieve Trevor Brigden and the game took a turn.

Cowlitz scored one in the 6tth, two in the 7th and the erupted for five runs in the 8th inning, capped off by a two-run single off the bat of Blake Burton to push across the tying and eventual winning run before Marty Maves locked down the save in the 9th inning and preserve the victory for the Black Bears.

Christian Peters picked up the win on the mound while Wyatt Hummel was saddled with the loss. The Falcons aim to get back in the win column as they return home to Elks Stadium for a rematch of the 2017 playoffs as they host the Victoria HarbourCats in a three-game series, beginning on Tuesday, June 12th.
