Fuel spill in tanker crash

UPDATE: 12:30 p.m.

The Trans-Canada Highway isn't expected to reopen until at least 8 p.m. following a tanker crash north of Victoria.

Traffic is being diverted around the scene.


UPDATE: 12:15 p.m.

BC Ambulance Service has tweeted that one patient has been taken to hospital in serious condition.

Two others are being treated at the scene.


ORIGINAL: 11:45 a.m.

A fuel tanker truck has crashed and is leaking fuel on the Trans-Canada Highway, north of Victoria.

The truck rolled on its side and is blocking one lane of traffic near Goldstream Provincial Park.

A van was also damaged in the crash, and two people appear to be injured.

Paramedics, police and firefighters are on scene.

The Ministry of Environment has been made aware of the fuel spill.

The highway is currently closed in both directions.
