Camper suffers serious burns

A Vancouver man hoping to enjoy the May long weekend camping with family and friends is now recovering after receiving serious burns to his arms and torso.

Harold Duncan-Williams wound up in serious trouble after mixing oil and gasoline while starting up a generator then moving right into fire building mode.

Duncan-Williams didn't realize the shirt he was wearing was soaked in fuel and quickly caught fire when he lit the campfire. The fire spread quickly and engulfed almost half his body.

The father of five had to be airlifted to hospital where he is being treated for first, second and third-degree burns on the upper half of his body including his abdomen, back, arms, neck and hands.

Duncan-Williams is expected to be in the Intensive Care Unit burn trauma centre for the next four to six weeks as he undergoes skin grafting surgery., followed by rehab that could take a year.

Family and friends have started a GoFundMe to help cover some of the costs of rehab and help provide for the family while he is unable to work.
