Flood donations pouring in

The Regional District Kootenay Boundary has provided information on verified donation channels available to help with flood recovery in the Boundary region.

Several crowdfunding pages have been set up to assist flood victims, collectively raising more than $43,000 already.

The Grand Forks Credit Union set up a GoFundMe page on Thursday, which has surpassed $15,000.

"All of those funds raised "will be given to the local organizations that are right here on the ground providing flood relief to the displaced community and its residents," the RDKB said.

The credit union also has created an account within their branch to specifically help small businesses.

CannaFest, the summer classic rock music festival that takes place annually in Grand Forks, has also set up a GoFundMe, which has raised more than $28,000 in seven days. Funds from their campaign will be used solely for residents displaced by flooding in the Grand Forks area.

The public can also donate to the Canadian Red Cross directly to help residents impacted by flooding, the RDKB said. The provincial government said it will match all Red Cross donations up to a total of $20 million.

Last week, officials said more than 500 structures have been damaged or destroyed by flooding in the Boundary region. Close to 3,000 people remain on evacuation order.

Retailers in Grand Forks have also worked to provide reprieve for flood victims. Four local gas stations dropped to "flood relief pricing," offering the lowest cost of fuel anywhere in B.C.
