Hwy closed till Saturday

UPDATE: 1:50 p.m.

Highway 3 is not expected to reopen until Saturday at the scene of a landslide near Creston.

DriveBC says the route could reopen anytime between 9 a.m. and 3 p.m., depending on progress by crews at the site.

UPDATE: 10 a.m.

Highway 3 remains closed in both directions at the scene of a large landslide 30 kilometres west of Creston.

DriveBC reports a geotechnical assessment is complete, and cleanup has begun.

There is still no estimated time of reopening, however.

There are significant delays at the Kootenay Lake Ferry due to traffic being detoured via that route.

Highway 3 will remain closed 30 kilometres west of Creston all night due to a mudslide.

DriveBC reports a geotechnical assessment will be carried out on the slide “at first light.”

Next update is due 8 a.m. Friday.
