Hwy 3 closed indefinitely

UPDATE: 10:25 p.m.

After an earlier report indicating the Crowsnest Highway west of Keremeos could reopen Thursday night, DriveBC says there is still no expectation for when the highway could reopen.

The next update on the road's condition is expected at 8 a.m. on Friday.

The section of the highway between Keremeos and Hedley was shut down at about 8:30 p.m. on Wednesday due to flooding from the Similkameen River.

UPDATE: 4:55 p.m.

DriveBC is reporting Highway 3 is estimated to reopen at 8 p.m.

ORIGINAL 9:30 a.m.

There's still no estimate on when the Crowsnest Highway between Keremeos and Hedley might reopen.

The section of highway, 14 kilometres west of Keremeos, was closed in both directions on Wednesday night, due to water flowing across the road from the surging Similkameen River.

DriveBC said the next update on the highway will be given at 4 p.m.

Drivers can use detours through Princeton from Highway 5A to the Okanagan Connector, or through Keremeos from Highway 3A to Highway 97.

Since May 3, the water level in the Similkameen River has risen by nearly five feet, according to federal data.
