Trailer drops on Distorted

The movie trailer has just dropped for the film Distorted, which was filmed in Vernon and Kelowna last spring.

The thriller stars Hollywood big-name actors Christina Ricci and John Cusack – along with several Okanagan locations that eagle-eyed viewers can watch for.

Ricci stars as Lauren Curran, an artist who suffers from bi-polar disorder and who is recovering from a personal tragedy. Her husband is played by Brendan Fletcher.

Cusack plays an investigative journalist whose interest is cyber conspiracy.

According to movie website IMDb.com, Ricci comes to suspect the proprietor of the state-of-the-art ''smart apartment'' she and her husband just moved into is using the building's residents as unwitting guinea pigs for a ''synthetic telepathy'' brainwashing plot with dire global ramifications.

Location manager Bob Bricker says locals will recognize backdrops including Vernon's Triumph Coffee, the Vernon water treatment plant, Pleasant Valley cemetery, Paddlewheel Park, the former Lavington Glass Plant, Kalamalka Lake and Coldstream's Mackie House, as well as Kelowna's Rotary Centre artwalk and Kelowna Mountain.

"We love the valley, and it's got some spectacular locations. Most important to us is how open the communities have been. All in all, it has been a great experience," producer Kevin Dewalt, CEO of Minds Eye Entertainment, said during filming.

The film is a co-venture between Minds Eye and QME Entertainment, which also teamed up for the Nicolas Cage sci-fi thriller The Humanity Bureau, and the action thriller Daughter of the Wolf, with Richard Dreyfuss – both of which were filmed in the Okanagan.
