Water threatens town centre

An evacuation alert has been put in place for 58 properties in the Tulameen area, about 25 kilometres northwest of Princeton.

The Regional District Okanagan Similkameen issued the alert "due to the threat of flooding in the vicinity of the Tulameen townsite, and because of the potential danger to life, health, and property damage."

A full list of the properties on alert can be found here.

Residents in the area will be given as much notice as possible should they need to be evacuated, the RDOS said, but notice may be limited due to potentially changing conditions.

Those on alert are asked to prepare themselves to leave at a moment's notice, and to gather important belongings and be ready to move pets or livestock out of the area.

A high streamflow advisory was issued earlier this week by the River Forecast Centre for most of southern B.C., including the entire Similkameen and Okanagan.

Tulameen is part of Electoral Area H in the RDOS, which had 1,953 residents in the 2016 census count.
