Funding for firework fest

Plans are underway to raise funds to celebrate Canada Day with a boom this year at Okanagan Lake.

The Penticton Lakeside Resort and Downtown Penticton Association will be raising money to put on the annual fireworks show for all ages over the lake on the evening of Sunday, July 1.

"Fireworks are a much-loved Canada Day tradition in Penticton," said Lynn Allin, executive director of the DPA. "We feel very fortunate to be partnering with Penticton Lakeside Resort."

To cover the costs, the two groups will need to raise $25,000, which they say is already underway through corporate pledges.

"Penticton businesses are very generous when it comes to showing community spirit," said David Prystay of the resort. "[We] are confident we'll get there given our deep connections throughout the city."

Businesses interested in contributing to what Allin calls "one of the most highly anticipated and well-attended events held downtown each year" can call the DPA at (250) 493-8540.
