RE: Drive more, pay more

I just read that article and all I can do is shake my head. If we drive more we already do pay more, because we buy more gas, pay more taxes, buy more parts, and so on. So we are not driving more for free, we pay dearly with today's gas prices and taxes and taxes on taxes (which as far as I know is not legal, but done anyway, just because they can).

But what is bugging me the most is the sentence about paying $1000.00 insurance for a 30 year old car. Just another example that proves that a lot of people don't even know what they are paying insurance for. The $1000.00 is not for your own car, it is for a damage you might cause to somebody else's car, that is very likely a lot newer and worth more money. Now paying $1000.00 in one shot is a lot of money for a lot of people, however, it is as little as a cup of coffee at Starbucks at $ 2.74 per day. I am also sure that the premium was not that much for all the 30 years, in other words it did not cost you $30,000.00, but if you hit one of today's newer cars, 30 grand won't be enough to get it fixed or replaced. The only insurance that would cover your car is called "comprehensive" and/or "collision" and if your car is not a collectors item they would not even insure it anymore.

So please, don't come up with stuff that might give our politicians new ideas!
