Cop runs faster than bad guy

A Fraser Valley bad guy learned you can't outrun the long arm – or the fleet foot – of the law.

Chilliwack RCMP Cpl. Mike Rail said just after 2 a.m. on April 18, police received a report that a prowler was inside a fenced compound on the 44000-block of Progress Way.

A responding officer spotted a man leaving the property through a hole in the security fence.

Once discovered, the suspect sprinted away from police, only to be quickly caught and taken into custody by the faster officer. Evidence linking the suspect to theft from the compound was seized by police during the arrest.

“The immediate response of police resources and a fleet-footed general duty officer played a significant role in the arrest of the suspect,” said Rail.

David Stephen Wilgosh, 44, has been charged with break and enter and commit theft under $5,000, mischief under $5,000 and possession of break-in instruments.
