Highway 3A getting closer

UPDATE 6:50 p.m.

DriveBC now indicates that Highway 3A between Castlegar and Nelson won't open to single lane traffic until 10 p.m. at the earliest.

The highway was closed 2 kilometres east of Castlegar at Brilliant Rest Area due to a mudslide that completely covered the roadway.

Clean up is in progress there is a light vehicle detour through Pass Creek Road and Commercial vehicles are asked to detour via Highway 3 and Highway 6.

UPDATE 12:45 p.m.

Castanet reader Bob Holt tells Castanet traffic has just started moving normally on Highway 1 near Three Valley Gap, "it's a big boulder on the side of the road and we've been sitting here for two hours."

DriveBC now indicates the road is open in both directions but crews are still working to remove debris from the side of the highway.

UPDATE 10:05 a.m.

Highway 1 is now open to single lane alternating traffic 20 kilometres west of Revelstoke at Three Valley Gap.

ORIGINAL 8:55 a.m.

Another mudslide has blocked Highway 3A between Castlegar and Nelson, the highway is closed in both directions.

The slide is located 2 kilometres east of Brilliant.

Crews are on scene assessing the situation right now, so far there is no estimated time of opening.

There is now a light vehicle detour through Pass Creek Road. Commercial vehicle detour via Highway 3 over the Bombi Pass.

Highway 1 is also closed in both directions because of debris on the road, 20 kilometres west of Revelstoke.

There is no detour available or estimated time of opening at this time.

Travellers are advised to check with DriveBC before heading out on highways, especially in the interior.
