Support pouring in

Support is pouring in for families and friends of those hurt or killed in a horrific accident Friday night.

The collision killed 14 members of the Humboldt Broncos and injured 15 more.

The accident happened some 200 km from Saskatoon and the entire nation is in mourning.

By Saturday afternoon, there was a three-hour wait at a Saskatoon blood clinic, with people eager to donate to the victims. Staff said many of the donors were first-timers eager to help those affected by the crash.

Just 12 hours after coming online, a GoFundMe campaign started by a resident of Humboldt, Sask. Had raised more than $1,030,000 to help players and their families cope with expenses.

Jordan Gadsby of the Nipawin Apostolic Church said members of his community are coming together to support those in need.

“People just want to do something,” he told CTV News Channel. “We were getting phone calls from the local co-op and No Frills and daycares and our mayor, bringing food and bringing blankets for anybody that might need blankets.”

“I am a hockey mom in Saskatoon. If you or family members need a place to stay or any other assistance please contact me,” tweeted Rosemary Armstrong.

“There’s more important things in life than playing your final game. We’re so sorry to hear of the Humboldt tragedy," tweeted Henrik Sedin

"The Blackhawks and @NHLJets will honor the Humboldt Broncos by wearing "BRONCOS" on the back of their jerseys in place of name plates tonight. Also, the #Blackhawks will match a $25,000 donation from both the Jets and @NHL to The Humboldt Broncos Hockey Club," Chicago Blackhawks.
