Glenrosa state of emergency

UPDATE: 4:35 p.m.

A local state of emergency has been declared in West Kelowna.

Mayor Doug Findlater made the declaration Friday to facilitate repairs to Lower Glenrosa Road, which was damaged due to flooding in Thursday evening's rain storm.

The state of emergency encompasses several properties along Lower Glenrosa Road and will allow the city required access on private property to conduct repairs to the compromised roadway between Glencoe and Glenway Roads.

ORIGINAL: 4:20 p.m.

Lower Glenrosa Road will remain closed until at least Monday.

The City of West Kelowna says crews have inspected damage to the road from Thursday's rain storm, and repairs to the section between Glencoe and Glenway roads have begun.

Officials say crews determined the road had been compromised due to erosion. A utility pole was also impacted.

Debris will have to be removed, and the compromised area will need to be rebuilt and the utility pole stabilized.

Motorists are asked to obey all emergency traffic signage and use Glenrosa Road as an alternative. Transit users can access Route 21 via Webber Road.

Progress will be updated Monday.

The city is conducting ongoing flood-risk monitoring of public infrastructure throughout the community.

Private property owners living in flood-prone areas or near waterways are encouraged to consider how to protect their property in case of flooding. Contact the city’s planning department at 778-797-8830 before conducting any work in waterways or sensitive aquatic areas on your property.
