Water woes across valley

UPDATE: 7:28 a.m.

DriveBC is reporting that Highway 5 is now open in both directions from exit 202, the Portia Interchange to Merritt. Heavy rains forced the closure overnight but the area is starting to clear off.

Heavy rain also forced the closure from Merritt to Kamloops, it's open this morning as well and Highway 97C is open in both directions as well from Merritt to Brenda Mines.

People in the Okanagan are waking up to more flood concerns Friday morning.

Crews have been working to stem the flow on Kirschner Mountain as water floods basements and threatens to cause mudslides.

In West Kelowna, parts of Boucherie and Gellatly Roads flooded and pooled when creeks overflowed.  Water was pooling in Glenrosa and snow caused driving problems on Highway 33 toward Big White.

YLW employees are also having to park in a lot that has large pools of water in some places.

Meghan Thompson posted on social media that the drive to OK Falls is fraught with challenges, flooded roads and falling debris as well.

Environment Canada has issued a special weather statement warning that flurries, hail and even snow at higher elevations can be expected through today as unseasonably cool air passes over Vancouver Island and across the southern parts of the province.

There is even a thundershower warning issued for parts of the coast and the interior as well.

Although it appears the worst is over for the valley, parts of the Interior may still see significant snowfall.

Environment Canada says mountain road conditions may be hazardous and travellers should be cautious and check DriveBC for latest information.
