Wildfire near Lytton

The BC Wildfire Service has responded to a four-hectare wildfire outside of Lytton.

The fire is believed to be human-caused, however, it is too early to tell what started the fire.

Jody Lucius, fire information officer with the Kamloops Fire Centre, says wildfires within the region aren't unheard of this time of year.

"While all wildfire is of concern, of course, this isn't necessarily an indication of what the fire season might look like. It is really too early in the season to predict what 2018 might look like for us."

Lucius says there could be some smoke visible from nearby communities as well as from Highway 12 and possibly Highway 1.

Wildfires this time of year tend to burn less intensely than they might at the peak of the summer, for example, because of the lower temperatures and shorter days.
