Fire crews have a smoldering mess to clean up after fire erupted inside a garbage truck.

Crews were called to the blaze on Lakeshore Road in front of the Esso gas station during the noon hour.

Initial images shared by Castanet readers showed white smoke billowing from the garbage collection area in the rear of the truck.

Eventually, the rear of the truck was opened, and the wet, smoldering contents were dumped onto the road.

The truck contained wood, plastics and quantities of garbage.

No word as to how the fire started, or whether there were any injuries.
